PRESENTATION

IFRU-SF was founded in 2004. Its main objective is to improve the medical offer in the area of male and female urogenital cancers, Obstetric fistula, andrology, sexual medicine, and medical education. The Institute aims to improve and promote different fields of urology training, sustaining education for practitioners, health decision-makers and patients.
 

Urological patients care

IFRU-SF invests in improving the management of urological diseases and neglected tropical diseases such as filarial hydrocele, obstetric fistula, endoscopy, pediatric urology, and cancer surgery, particularly prostate cancer. IFRU-SF conducts repair and training missions on obstetric fistula in Senegal, Chad, Rwanda, Guinée Bissau, Gambia, Tanzania, Burundi, Madagascar, and Gabon.
 

Urology training

IFRU-SF is recognized for its organization of training workshops on lower and upper urinary tract endoscopy for urologists from Senegal and other African countries.
 

A partnership with IVUMED an American NGO has been established since 2009 and every year a team of surgeons and nurses come into Senegal to train urologists and pediatric surgeon in pediatric Urology.

In the field of prostate cancer, IFRU-SF in collaboration with the Doylestown Hospital in Pennsylvania (USA) has improved surgical practice by helping to advance skills in radical prostatectomy which is a curative technic for the treatment of prostate cancer.
 

Research in Urology

In partnership with the Center for clinical epidemiology and biostatistics of Pennsylvania University in Philadelphia (Upenn) and some Senegalese laboratories like CDRMM and Bio 24, IFRU-SF is involved in prostate cancer research. The collaboration between IFRU and Upenn resulted in a research project funded by an NIH grant. The prostate genetic research in Senegal (PROGRES) aims to get a better understanding of the epidemiological, clinical and genetic characteristics of prostate cancer in Senegal. Subsequently the idea of creating the consortium MADCAP was raised and developed with a full participation of IFRU and others African and US institutions.
 

Community Health care

To strengthen its impact in the community, IFRU-SF is committed to developing and integrating a central network in Community Health care services. The construction of the IFRU – SF community health center is almost completed.
